Scratch Dog Poses

It's a big one!

I keep shrinking his feet; they're so loooooong. I should've raised his head a little more in that first pose, I think. Given a little space between his chin and his feet.

I really wanted to poke his left elbow out in the pose with him scratching his ear, but I'll be damned if I could figure it out without making it look really awkward, so I guess that'll do.

Blair Dog Body Practice

Wow. When you don't draw for a week, it's amazing how much skill goes away.

My friend is home now, so no more distractions for a while.

Double Post Dog Poses

I've got a friend over for a few weeks, so I'm a bit distracted. I did my practice on the 13th but forgot to post it, so here's practice over two days.

Scratch Poses

Figured it was time to try redrawing the critters in my own poses.

I think the rabbit turned out kind of decent, but I think I crowded the back of his head too much with that eyebrow. There's also a weird tangent going on between his far cheek and teeth/nose. I probably should have raised his nose a bit and/or lowered the cheek so that they didn't line up so weirdly.

Not too happy with the dog in the lower left. I think his skull might be too wide, and his eyebrow is funky and doesn't line up with the brow. The lower right one's got a weird collar, and I think his neck might be too thick.

Blair Rabbit Practice

So close! I can't believe how well these exercises are working.

Blair Dog Practice 2

Ahaaa. The eyes are supposed to bulge slightly.

Blair Dog Practice

Getting closer! If I can just get the skull shape right... It's getting easier to gauge shapes and scales now than it was when I started, though, which is a relief. But I still have a way to go. Angles are still a little rough, but getting easier. And I really need to work on line control.

I figured part of my problem was working small, so I upped the scale a bit. These guys are the size of my hand, instead of the size of my OK sign. Not sure if it helped. Certainly helped with the hand cramping, though.

I've also taken to writing my notes directly on the drawing instead of trying to add them in with Photoshop. That way they're right there where I can see them without having to dig out the file. Plus it's easier to write. If it's better that I write the notes on the file, too, (to make sure I'm not bullshitting, I guess?) then I can do that.

Bugs Practice

Hmmmmmaybe I should work on control a little more before I start drawing Bugs. But it was fun trying.
